Improving on the plastic chassis from last year's 4510s series, HP doesn't aim this business laptop at the netbook crowd; with a 15.6-inch high-definition matte screen and a brushed aluminum exterior, the hefty device targets professionals who want a notebook with the power to handle marathon spreadsheet sessions as well as the occasional Blu-ray break on a long business trip. Starting at $719 (though our review unit cost a little more than $800 as of July 1, 2010), the 4520s is a modest performance machine ideal for small business users on a budget.
<script The new ProBook packs an Intel Core i3-370M processor under the keys; and even though HP's push for multimedia performance exacts a toll on battery life, our PCWorld Labs laptop analysts got almost 4 hours of viewing time from the 4520s while running high-definition video playback at the maximum native resolution of 1366 by 768. After marathon viewing sessions of The Lord of the Rings in HD, BBC Video's Planet Earth series on Blu-ray, and a number of World Cup 2010 matches stored on the 250GB 7200-rpm SATA drive, we can report that the Intel integrated graphics handled 720p HD playback and upscaling competently, without sacrificing a high frame rate. The antiglare backlit LED screen was comfortable for prolonged viewing and colors remained sharp at viewing angles of roughly 60 degrees from center, making the 4520s perfect for presentations or sharing a movie during long flights.Weaknesses in the configuration--2GB of RAM (or 4GB with the optional upgrade) and an integrated graphics chipset (upgradable to an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4350 graphics board)--make the 4520s a poor platform for playing the latest games, but HP has never pretended otherwise about its ProBook line. Contemporary titles such asCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Dragon Age: Origins are nearly unplayable, but many games from the heyday of DirectX 9 are perfectly playable if you tune the laptop's graphical settings for medium performance.Overall, a decidedly average WorldBench 6 score of 103, coupled with our tepid hands-on experience, suggests that multimedia junkies should look elsewhere for their entertainment fix. Audio playback suffers from the poor range and volume of the tinny external speakers; but when I intervened by donning a good pair of Sennheiser HD 448 headphones, I could jam along to the highs and lows of the latest Wolfmother album with no detectable degradation in sound quality. An HDMI port is also available, though the 4520s ability (absent the ATI graphics upgrade) to produce video output worthy of being blown up on a big screen is in doubt.Still, I appreciated the array of ports squeezed into the limited real estate along the side of the case; for a full rundown, check the ‘Specs' tab of this review page. HP deserves special recognition for incorporating three USB 2.0 ports spread across both sides for easy access, along with the aforementioned HDMI port and one USB 2.0/SATA hybrid port on the left. The keys are laid out in a Chiclet-style keyboard design that takes advantage of the extra space afforded by the 15.6-inch screen footprint, and the roomy multitouch-capable trackpad is slightly offset to rest beneath the user's left wrist. Though these may sound like tiny details, the extra space made long writing sessions noticeably more comfortable than similar work on notebooks from competing manufacturers. To improve personal security, the 4520s offers an impressive suite of proprietary software that takes advantage of the Webcam (for facial recognition) and optional fingerprint sensor (not available on our review copy) to limit profile access based on biometric data. The hardware performed as advertised during testing, though I found that the (optional) 2-megapixel Webcam integrated above the display did a poor job of recognizing facial features under lighting conditions other than direct sunlight; the indirect lighting in our office did an impressive job of fouling up this feature during testing. Being repeatedly blocked from logging in due to poor image quality has the potential to drive a harried business user insane. Thankfully, HP offers the option of switching off the security suite at will, though small-business owners will appreciate features like Drive Encryption and a File Sanitizer. Also noteworthy is the QuickLook 3 software, a shell that displays basic contact and calendar info at the press of a button without requiring you to boot into Windows 7.Overall the ProBook 4520s is a creditable low-cost "jack-of-all trades" laptop for working professionals, and the various customization options available offers budget-conscious consumers a little leeway in making the best of their budget. Pretentious color schemes aside (I had hoped for the caviar, but got stuck with the bordeaux), the latest ProBook is sleek, sturdy, and equally adept at home, in the office, or anywhere in between.src="http://www.mypagerank.net/services/sbt/sbt.php" type="text/javascript">

Trade in Laptop Can Save Our Planet

Are you fed up with your old laptop? It really is that simple, and with a bit of thought you can come up with a pad for your mouse that is much more comfortable than the standard ones.

The best pad for your mouse that you can use is one that supports your hands and wrist, and that is comfortable. The following really slows down the work particularly if all of us have deadlines. There are five basic steps to take to speed up your computer. You simply require to follow each step for a much better performance when using your laptop or computer. Issues relating to your laptop or computer are easier to repair than you think.

The first step to speed up your computer is to check for viruses. Most of the time, your computer gets slower and slower due to viruses that invaded our computer programs or files. You will require good antivirus software to confirm your problem. It is necessary to upgrade the software daily for a more accurate detection.

The second step is to defragment your hard drive. The defragment tool is under System Tools in your Accessories folder. Deleting and saving files or programs in your computer creates scattered bits in your hard drive. This will be the cause of your computer slowing down. The defragmenting tool will arrange these bits into a whole piece, thus, help your computer with better performance.

The third step is to clean up your files. A common misconception by laptop or computer users is having too many programs installed, it can slow down any computer. The truth is, it is actually not the programs you installed but the invisible elements that operate even when you are not using it. Windows users are offered very simple instructions from the Internet how to prevent these unwanted components from loading through start up. This may help in making your laptop or computer start effortlessly.

The fourth step is to start over by reinstalling the operating system entirely. Erasing everything from your computer can be necessary and more useful than looking at possible answers as to why your computer is not starting or is malfunctioning. You will need to back up your files using an external hard drive. You can also find good articles on how to uninstall and install your programs from the Net.

The fifth step is all about upgrading. If you are still having trouble after you have installed Windows, then its time to upgrade. This means that this is the limit of what you can do with your hardware. The system memory, which is the RAM, will speed up your computer. You must first know how much memory you can add, depending on the sockets of your motherboard. There are steps on the internet on how to install the RAM. It is recommended that you max out depending on what your computer system can handle. The second part is the video card which, in an expensive computer, the integrated graphics is built into the motherboard. While in the other computers, there is a separate graphics processing unit with a lot more power. Just be aware of how much your motherboard can handle if you buy one.
Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com

This guide contains tips on how to fix problems of your computer and offer technical information for issues regarding hardware and software problems, Click Here: fix my computer

How to Build A Website Using Dreamweaver

If you want to discover how to build a website, then read this article. This system has a great design, and you can choose between black, red and silver. It's a well-built computer with a strong internal frame and lid. It's built to be sturdy and solid, even more so than the average notebook. Its design is really neat and unique, as is expected for an Alienware system.

The Dell Alienware M15x comes with the following, most of which can be configured or upgraded:

· 15.6" 1080p display w/ LED backlighting

· Intel Core i7 processor (920XM / 2.0GHz-3.2GHz Turbo Mode)

· 500 GB hard drive 7200 RPM

· 4GB DDR3 133 memory

· WiFi Link

· Blu-ray reader/drive

· 9-cell Lithium ion battery

· Genuine Windows 7 Ultimate Ed.

· 3 color choices: Lunar Shadow, Cosmic Black, and Red Nebula

The screen, keyboard, and touchpad are all pretty impressive. The LED-backlit display is available in your choice of 1920x1080 and 1600x900. The display looks amazing - it is highly vivid and offers clear contrast and brightness. The surface is covered with edge-to-edge glass, which creates a seamless look. The display is one of the most impressive and near-perfect you will ever see on a notebook computer.

This Alienware M15x review also needs to mention the keyboard. Despite being full-sized, it unfortunately lacks a number pad. However, the keyboard is very quiet and the keys have are designed for good traction. They have a bit of a rubbery-feel to make typing easy and comfortable. The touchpad has heavy texture on its matte surface, which makes navigation somewhat hard to get used to.

Despite a lack of number pad and somewhat rough touchpad, this is still a wonderfully-designed and built notebook. And, with the powerful processor and graphics solution, it can handle any game or program you want to run! It also uses Turbo Boost technology to help the processor run at a faster rate. The battery is excellent, and lasts for several hours if you do light tasks. It can last for around two hours if you do heavy gaming.

Obviously, this notebook doesn't come cheap, so you need to look for some Dell Alienware M15x coupons. Some online computer stores are giving good discounts on this system, so take advantage of them while they're still available. You can knock a lot of money off of your order if you use Dell coupons. This will make upgrades more affordable! Owning a powerful, expensive gaming laptop isn't impossible if you use the right coupons.

ASUS UL80Ag-A1 Review

Asus, world leading name in producing good quality laptops, introduces a new inexpensive laptop computer ASUS UL80Ag-A1. The device might be a printer, camera, scanner, etc. Most of the time, whatever device you are trying to install will have a driver associated with it. That's fine, if it works. The problem is many times these drivers don't have instructions on how to install them. Or even worse, the instructions are just plain wrong! This is especially true with devices originating in foreign countries.

If the writer uses "ain't" or some other words that might cause English teachers to "cringe," that's no big deal. But I do appreciate it when the writer at least knows enough of the language that I'm not lost before I even get started. Another problem with manuals is that they are sometimes hidden in a text file on the installation CD.

If you are having installation problems, go to the manufacturer's website. There's a good chance that you'll find a software update that either fixes the problem or a FAQ file that will help you to better understanding what you're doing wrong. If you have a manual read it! Even if your device has a printed manual, look on the CD anyway. Many times, a manufacturer will find a bug in the software and will include the fix on the CD. It's expensive to reprint manuals while it costs practically nothing to include the fix on the CD. Of course, the website should have the latest information.

Here are three devices that I see people having trouble with all the time, scanners, digital cameras, and printers. These first two devices use a "twain" driver and this is where the problems usually start. Most of the better scanners and cameras use the USB (Universal Serial Buss) for connecting to the computer. USB ports are "hot swap" ports, meaning they will automatically detect a new device as soon as you plug it in. The problem most people make is to plug in the device before they install the software.

Usually, the software has to be installed before you plug in your device. READ your manual. If this is the case, install the software, then, with your computer up and running, plug the USB cable into your new device (making sure the device is turned on) and then into your computer. A message should appear on the monitor saying something such as, "scanner found" or "camera found." You may even get a message on the monitor before the software is completely installed saying, "plug in your device." Just be sure to follow the instructions and you should be OK.

Printers install in much the same way. Printer/scanner combinations are usually the best choice if you need color printing. If you only need to print text, then a laser will most likely be your best bet.

Another peripheral I'm often asked about is the monitor. There's not much to hooking up a monitor, but once it's connected, you'll probably need to adjust it. Every video card is different and each monitor will display the image a little differently. Adjust the controls on the monitor so that the image covers the complete display area. If you see a black border between your screen image and the edge of the monitor, it's out of adjustment. I've seen 17" monitors that were so far out of whack; they looked more like a 15" monitor.

Don't forget to set your display output from within Windows itself. I usually use 1024 x 768 with 16 bit color, but this will depend on the size and type of monitor you're using.

Installing new devices is easy if you just take the time to read your manual and then follow the directions closely. If you don't have the manual, you might be able to find it if you Google it. Also, check out "YouTube." I've found tutorials there that have been a huge help in both installing and operating new peripheral devices.
source:http://ezinearticles.com

Lenovo Skylight Smartbook

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 180px; height: 135px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_KV0WbnyQQSk/S1KLcefbr2I/AAAAAAAAADI/szvsy5XVphY/s400/186165-skylightnate-1_180.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5427553822272368482" />
At first blush, the Lenovo Skylight is exactly what the netbook should've been.

Instead of slapping a pared down OS onto low powered hardware, the Skylight approaches the widget-centric Internet we've grown accustomed to on our mobile phones, armed with a full-sized keyboard and clamshell design

Technically, it's an oversized smartphone. Announced at CES on Tuesday, the Skylight is powered by 1.8 GHz Snapdragon processor, with built in WiFi and 3G mobile broadband. Its 10.1-inch HD screen offers 1280 by 720 resolution. And despite being a featherweight at 1.95 pounds, the machine felt sturdy, with a solid hinge and chassis. The full-sized keyboard is typical Lenovo-fare: comfortable, roomy keys made my admittedly limited typing session a pleasant one. The track-pad wasn't as responsive as I would liked, but I was told that this iteration would change before the unit starts to ship in April.

An important note: that garish, hinged column sticking out on the image isn't an antenna -- it's the included USB storage stick, and typically lies flush with the chassis. Tucked beneath it are slots for a micro-SD card, and a SIM card. Insert a SIM card from any 3G-ready GSM provider (that's AT&T and T-Mobile here in the US), and you'll be up and running on their 3G network.

The Skylight will ship with 18 web gadgets, encompassing much of what the Internet has to offer. These run along a dock at the bottom of the screen, and include access to Amazon's MP3 store, GMail and Google Maps, Facebook, or Firefox. If 18 widgets aren't enough, I was told that Lenovo will be releasing the platform's SDK -- expect enterprising developers to pad that list soon enough. The device also supports normal web browsing, so standard web apps will work just fine.

The device offers 20 GB of flash storage, and an additional 2GB of free online storage. If you'd like a bit more room, you'll have to rely on USB keys (the included storage stick can be replaced with a typical USB key), though there is an SD card slot, and an additional USB port. The Skylight will gather media stored across formats and display it on the appropriate widget, re-populating the library as USB keys and the like are removed. If 10.1 inches isn't enough screen real-estate, a mini-HDMI output port is included, for piping your media out onto a larger screen.

The Skylight will retail for $500. It will also be subsidized by phone carriers, starting with AT&T, but pricing wasn't available at the time of my demonstration.

The challenge here lies in finding the right market for the device. Despite the smartbook title, the Skylight isn't so much a new niche, as a re-imagined netbook. This one just happens to focus on the always-on, perpetual connectivity that the "net" prefix should have implied.

ASUS Eee Box EB1012 Nettop

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_KV0WbnyQQSk/S06ooi9dz4I/AAAAAAAAADA/FnNhhiyBeAM/s200/asus.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426460015560871810" />
Specifications:
The ASUS Eee Box EB1012 is an affordable and compact mini-desktop model. At the moment, the ASUS Eee Box EB1012 is retailing for around $387.

Acer AOD250 10.1 Inch Netbook

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 280px; height: 280px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_KV0WbnyQQSk/S0VtVE1zNjI/AAAAAAAAAC4/YTS0Ig2c2bo/s320/Acer-AOD250-1604-10_1-Inch.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5423861535081707058" />
Specifications: The new generation of netbooks is finally here! They now have better specs, sport great improvements in design and best of all, have lower price tags. The Acer AOD250 is a great example of such netbooks. Although most of the specs remain unchanged (such as the 1GB of RAM and the 1.6Ghz processor), there are some significant upgrades. For instance, this model now comes with a larger 250GB hard drive (as opposed to 160GB on older models). Like most netbooks, this model comes with the new Windows 7 Starter OS.

Design: I am also very taken with the design of the new Acer AOD250 10.1-inch netbook. They now come with silver hinges on the sides and there is a small gap between the screen and the CPU/keyboard unit. Overall, it looks very contemporary and is an improvement over the design on older Acer Aspire One models. It is available in blue, black, white and Ruby Red.

Features & Performance: In our tests, the Acer AOD250 did a pretty good job in running daily computing tasks such as surfing the web and processing Microsoft Office documents. Watching videos and movies on the screen was also a delight on the LED back-lit screen. The images were very sharp and clear. Some of its other features include 3 USB ports, a multi-touch track pad and a memory card reader. One of the biggest selling points of the Acer AOD250 would have to be its price. At the moment, you can get your hand on one of these netbooks for just around $278 each.

How to Keep Laptop Batteries Good For Much Longer

Laptop computers have come a long ways in technology and capabilities. People now have the opportunity to take tiny compact computers wherever they want. The only problem and the thing that limits laptops the most are their batteries.

Laptop batteries never seem to last as long as they are advertised to do. And as they age they only get worse. What many people find is that their laptop adapters and cords go bad before their battery. I would suggest all laptop users to have a few backup batteries and a few power adapters to keep them charged.

Batteries for laptops are not cheap and are sold only by the company who makes your laptop. This is done specifically so that the manufacturer can make money from you later on. Depending on how old or worn down your laptop may be, it may be better to just buy a new laptop than spending all of that money on a new battery. There are a few things you can do though to ensure the longest possible life from your battery.

Most laptop batteries have problems because they are left plugged in to charge too much. For me, I used to keep the laptop plugged in all of the time unless I wasn't near an outlet. Needless to say my battery didn't last too long. Its best to let your battery run all of the way down until it needs to be recharged. Do this about once a month or so and you will find that your battery life will last longer.

Try not to keep the batteries from being used for too long. Not using a battery at all will slowly kill the batteries life expectancy. Cycle through your batteries so that they are all getting at least some use.

Monitor your battery to make sure that it is not getting too hot. If it feels hot to the touch you should then remove it and let it cool down. Keep a close eye on how hot your battery gets when it is in use. A hot battery may mean that is is defective and can ruin your computer.

Remember that the conditions that you store your computer in will have an effect on the battery as well. Be sure to leave it out of extreme hot or cold conditions.

Until laptop computers get better with making their batteries (and they will) we will just have to settle with what we have and keep our current batteries lasting as long as possible. The above tips will help your battery live longer so you can save money.

Fix Errors Caused by Malware Infections

Among various threats that have a potential to cause harm to your computer a malware infection is among the most dangerous. It can cause complete havoc on your computer and at times, may cause irreversible damage to it. Unfortunately, most users are either ignorant about the enormity of this danger or seem over-confident about the protection measures they have taken. This is the reason why billions of dollars are lost every year to malware infections.

Let us begin by understanding what exactly a malware is. A malware or malicious software is a code or a software program that attempts to enter your computer system without your consent, with the intention of causing damage or stealing information. All kinds of viruses, worms, Trojans, spyware and adware classify as malware.

Tools to Fix Error Caused By Malware Infections

To fix error caused by malware infections you need to take actions to detect them on your PC and delete the malicious files, programs and registry entries added by them. Two anti-malware tools that enable you to perform these tasks easily are Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware tools. Based on your security requirements, you can choose from several free and paid utilities. To ensure that your PC is ready to combat malware infection at any given time, you need to ensure the following:

* Keep both the tools updated with latest malware definitions released by their manufacturers. This helps you ensure that your PC is protected against the latest threats.
* Schedule periodic full system scans to ensure that any malware data that might have infiltrated your PC is removed before it can cause much damage.
* Opt for tools with real-time protection. This way you can prevent unwanted and malicious program from creeping on to your PC.

If you notice a sudden increase in errors on your computer, it usually indicates some type of malware infections. You must immediately take your PC off the network/Internet and then perform a thorough full system scan using both the tools.

How to Prevent Errors Caused by Malware Infections

In addition to using antivirus and antispyware tools, you may also perform the following tasks to make your PC more secure:

* Ensure that your operating system, software applications and device drivers are updated on regular basis. These updates patch up security loopholes in software programs and help keeping safe.
* Implement a firewall to block any unauthorised intrusions by hackers and other malicious programs.
* Increase the security of your Internet Explorer to ensure that you are safe from dubious and phishing Web sites.
* Avoid opening email attachments that look suspicious-even if they come from known addresses. Email attachment is a common medium used by malware programs to transfer from one computer to another.
* Always scan any external media devices, such as USB drive, CD and DVD for viruses before accessing any data from it.

Malware infections have a capability to cause irrecoverable problems on your PC. This is the reason why, it is best that you regularly scan your PC for infections and be vigilant about what you install, copy, download and access from your PC.

Article Source:EzineArticles.com

How to Resolve the Computer Hangup Problems Completely

Many of you likely have experienced this problem. When you are concentrated in writing on Word, inputting data to Excel, playing games or something else, the computer would freeze/hang up itself. And sometimes the computer even hangs up on startup. To resolve the problem completely, you need to know the issues that cause it

Registry Errors
Normally registry is the main troublemaker of the problem. Registry is the database of Windows systems which contains the most important information and settings of all device drivers, system programs and software. The data from how a computer starts up to how a program implement an order is stored in registry. Windows systems need the data in the registry to run smoothly and give orders to programs and software to implement a specific operation.

It's so important but very fragile. It can be easily damaged by some illegal operations or deleted by viruses. If one of the entries is deleted or damaged, computers will not be able to run properly. What is worse, it probably leads to system malfunctions like freezing/hangup, blue screen, blank screen and even crash. You can use a registry utility to scan and fix the errors in registry.

Missing and Damaged DLL Files
DLL files are also important components of Windows systems. But they can be easily damaged or deleted accidentally if you frequently install and uninstall some programs or software. The damaged and missing DLL files can also lead to the computer freezing/hangup and other serious system malfunctions.

And other issues, like ActiveX and Junk files, can also cause the computer to hang up. To resolve the problem completely, you can find a professional repair tool to help you fix all the errors in your computer.

The Difference Between Hackers and Crackers

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 289px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_KV0WbnyQQSk/SzwztwoSDQI/AAAAAAAAACw/92M_5HfT4XU/s320/hacker.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5421264912688221442" />

When most people think about computer security the word hacker comes to their mind. Another word that is also associated with bad computer behaviour is cracker and most of the time the two words are used interchangeably but they are not the same thing.

A hacker is a person who has a great deal of computing skills and enjoys the challenges of solving technical issues. This includes breaking and infiltrating computers and networks. The aim of hackers is not to cause damage but the technical aspects and how to overcome them fascinates them and they see it as learning and as a status symbol amongst the hacker community.

An individual does not give himself the title hacker but it is left up to the community to bestow that title if the person has demonstrated the required knowledge and proved it. A hacker feels that information should be free so they document how they went about overcoming certain difficulties so others can learn from them. This sharing raises the status of the individual concerned and as a whole the community benefits.

Unlike a hacker the aim of a cracker is to cause mischief and gain some benefit by causing harm to the owner of the computer or network broken into e.g. by stealing credit card details or installing some malicious software.

Hackers see crackers as lowlifes and try very hard to distinguish themselves from them but this is not easy especially when the media insists on calling everybody a hacker.

The difference between a hacker and a cracker might not seem a lot to the average person because after all both of them break into unauthorised computers and networks but in reality there is a big difference because what matters is what the person does after he/she infiltrates a network.

Easy to Carry Everywhere with Smallest Computer

Does the idea of carrying the entire data in your home or office desktop with you is appealing in anyways? Do you feel that even the laptops are also too heavy and not that convenient to carry everywhere? Then you will definitely like to buy the smallest-computer for the convenience of carrying it everywhere without having to carry that heavy laptop bag.

If you go just by the name like minicomputer or microcomputer, you will not see the smallest computer. Minicomputer is the miniature computer though certainly not a smallest computer. Microcomputer got that name just because of the small size of their central processing units and not because of the computer's small size.

The palmtops became the milestone in the saga of computers. However the palmtops enjoyed their minicomputer status only till the arrival of tablet PCs, commonly known as the notebooks. The major computer companies like Intel, Microsoft and Samsung developed the notebook measuring just 8 inches in a joint project called 'project Origami'. This has a very sensitive touch screen.

The biggest advantage of these computers is portability. The fact that they can be taken anywhere is very fascinating. Though these are the minicomputers till now, the prices are comparatively very high.

However the question is that how long can this technology remain the smallest computer? The technology is advancing everyday. You never know what smallest size of computer you will see in future.

It is a good idea to read some customer reviews before you buy any type of electronic item online

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com

A Laptop For Everyone on the Planet

Bill Gate's vision of a desktop PC in every home in America has become a reality. Nobody dreamed of having the internet in every home, but that's a reality as well. With the corporate work paradigm shifting from the confines of the office boundaries into the open road and at home, the phenomenon of mobile computing has made increasingly popular the use of computer laptops and notebook PCs.

Going beyond a paradigm shift, mobile computing essentially shatters the distinction between office and home with the proliferation of mobile computing gadgets. 8-hour work shifts are replaced by the entire waking hours of employees working at home as they don't need to be supervised within the traditional work hours. Soon every person on earth will have a laptop as an indispensable tool for making a living, whether employed or self-employed, in the office, at home or anywhere on the planet.

Overtaking the Desktop PC

Computer laptops and notebooks have been outselling desktop PCs in the US starting in 2005. Statistical data from the Gartner Group reveal that they enjoy an 18% annual growth rate in worldwide sales while desktops hovered in the 7% growth in the same period. At this rate, laptops will soon account for 50% of all consumer PCs sold to homes by 2011. This year, the Gartner group sees laptops eating 40% of all PC shipments around the planet.

Nearly half of the workforce in many organizations work at home or while on the road. Sales people don't need office space as they are on the road most of the time visiting and selling to clients. Programmers and analysts, as well as executives can do what they do in the office.

There are virtual secretaries and clerks that do the same work remotely and transparently. About the only people who need office space are lab researchers, engineers and scientists who still work on centralized facilities unique to their work and can't be accessed from their homes.

Popularity of Laptops

What's causing this shift from desktop to laptops? It's really a no-brainer when you consider that laptops have been increasingly approaching the computing power of desktop PCs. This is basically what's needed in mobile computing that has redefined the way employees work. With a smaller footprint, its portability and decreasing prices factored in, laptops are sure to capture more market shares both in the office and in homes.

- Cost

Laptops used to be more expensive than desktops of the same power. Today, while both desktops and laptops prices have reached mass prices, differences in prices cover a mere $300 to $500 gaps, giving both a nearly level playing field.

- Power

Computing power differences have narrowed down for most models though high end desktop PCs still command a processing power edge, especially among power users in the animation and graphics industries. Data storage capacities between the two have likewise narrowed.

- Portability/Mobility

Given the nearly level playing field for power and price, the laptop's portability and smaller footprint give it the edge that the market finds increasingly practical for mobile computing that is fast becoming the norm in their employment situation these days.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com

How to Make Windows Faster With Only Two Tips

Speed up Windows XP has become a dream for more and more people due to the widespread of Windows users. With an excellent spyware removal tool, you can easily, quickly and perpetually remove out all of the spyware from your PC on purpose to speed up Windows XP.

Remove out all of the registry errors to speed up Windows XP

Windows Registry serves as a hierarchical center for Microsoft Windows system for it is used to store settings for low-level operating system components as well as the applications running for Microsoft Windows system. Due to its crucial status in the system, you cannot be empowered to perform any single task without it. In some cases, incorrect removal of application from the system can cause the system to generate a surprising number of registry errors in the Windows Registry itself. If you do not pay much attention to the accumulation of the massive amount of registry errors, it will lead to some dreaded problems like Blue Screen Errors, DLL errors, exe errors and frequently system crashes.

How to speed up Windows XP through optimizing the Windows Registry? The best option is to clean the Windows Registry. This is perhaps the most effective and common way to speed up Windows XP. Without help, you cannot edit the registry to tweak it because Windows Registry is so complicated even if you are a professional.

If you are feeling so hard to tweak the registry, you can make a full scan for the whole system for free with a registry cleaner. Some say the best kind of computer is Apple and others mention netbooks. Your task when listening to these peoples opinions is to determine who is a brand loyalist with skewed view of the product and who is offering you quality advice.

First I will give you the pros and cons of owning a Apple computer. I'll start out with the pros first, the main thing that Apple users will be telling you is "It Just Works" now I'm calling them dumb or anything but if you use your computer responsibly it won't matter if it's from Apple or not it'll just work. The other point they bring up is the simplicity of OSX and you'll get no argument from me on that point it is very simple to use. The other pro Apple users like to bring up is the lack of viruses and again I won't argue on that because it is true.

Now the cons of the Apple computer is the price and the learning curve. The price because the cheapest Apple laptop is still $1000. The learning curve is only a con if you've been using Windows for a long time. Learning to use a Apple computer isn't that bad, I'd recommend going to either the Apple store of the Apple section of your local Best Buy to sit down and try and learn before buying.

Netbooks are the next recommendation that some of just recently started making. Netbook on average cost less than $350 and they are able to do things like Internet and E-mail very well. The pros of owning a netbook are pretty simple it's cheap, portable and long battery life. The cons of owning a netbook are one having to get used to the smaller keyboard, two limited computing power, lessened durability.

A netbook is only a good choice if you are a casual computer user. Someone who only needs something portable to read e-mails and go online with. That is where a netbook is best utilized.

A netbook and a Apple computer are the extremes of price spectrum, netbooks being the cheapest and Apple being the most expensive. Now we should discuss in the middle laptop brands. The best ones are Dell, Sony, Acer and Asus. When it comes to customer satisfaction Asus ranked higher than any other company including Apple.

The pros of buying a mid range PC laptop is that there is no learning curve and the price to performance ratio is very good. The best laptops are priced between $800 and $1000 and for those prices you get similar specifications to $1500 Apple laptops. I highly recommend looking the laptops that Asus and Sony have to offer, they are styled good have all the specifications you need.

Tips For a Greener Computer

While the world is thriving, it can't be denied that our resources are getting depleted day by day. It is indispensable to preserve our resources. In the present times, sitting in front of computers incessantly for long periods of time has become inevitable. But this is harmful for you and your computer as well. A few possible changes can help you go a long way by diminishing the negative impacts on you, your computer and the environment. At the same time, these amendments will help you save money as well. Depending on the way you use or reuse your computer, environmental repercussions are bound to occur. There are seven main ways for a greener computer. Read on to find out what they are.

You can place your PC in the sleep mode for sometime if not in use, when the PC is left idle for a fixed amount of time like fifteen minutes or more. Using the Windows operating system, this mode can be set through 'Power Options' in the 'Control Panel', while using MAC it can be done through 'Energy Saver preferences'. In Windows, WinOFF is responsible for shutting down, restarting or hibernating the system after a certain amount of time, when it goes idle. There are nearly ten computing energy savers available. PCs normally take 2 to 3 seconds to wake up. In certain laptops of today, the mere closing of the lid will put the system to sleep.

The next way to save power is by turning off the system when it is not needed. For normal running, a laptop needs 30 watts whereas a flat panel system or traditional desktop requires 60 watts for its running. In sleep mode, the power consumption will be reduced by 5 watts. If you want your system to consume zero power, it needs to be shut down or put into hibernate state by using the Operating System menu. The difference is that the former requires one minute for recovery whereas the latter requires thirty seconds.

If you want your computer to consume less power while working, you can disconnect other peripherals such as the printer, speakers, scanner, router and backup drives unless they are needed. Because, these equipment consume a few watts even when they are idle but connected. It is passable to leave your cable modem connected, since it requires some time to provide Internet connection once turned off.

Incase your PC decelerates, you can think of extended memory to bump up the speed to some extent, before going in for a new one. Because, a small extended memory with reasonable price may give a lift to its life span. Make certain of the memory you have by going through the Control Panel in Windows and About This MAC in MAC operating systems and use a reliable memory configurator to check if the system is extendable to a gigabyte or more. This kind of upgradation saves you money.

Instead of having separate PCs for every member of your family, you can share the available one by creating separate accounts. In order to create separate accounts simply go to User Accounts in the Control Panel in Windows and Accounts Panel in MAC OS. You can easily toggle between the accounts by logging off instead of restarting the system. Always look for the Energy Star label when you buy a new PC. At all times, lower the brightness of the monitor to protect your eyes.

Creating Secure Passwords For Your Online Activities

If you engage in several online activities, you will find it may be confusing to either come up with a password that is easy for you to remember or one that no one else could guess. Interest security passwords should be something that will be easy for you to remember, but not so easy that anyone could figure it out. The following are some helpful hints to assist you in coming up with the best Internet security passwords.

Do Not Use The Obvious

When choosing your Internet security passwords, never use the obvious. This includes the username of your network, your birthday, phone number, or even the word password. Many people often find themselves the victim of an online security breach when they use Internet security passwords that are so obvious to anyone.

Do Not Use Words in Dictionary

When choosing the best Internet security passwords, you will want to make sure you do not use words in the dictionary. Unfortunately, there is software that can be used to find your password. This software goes through words of the dictionary to detect what your password is and once they find it, you may have just become the newest victim of identity theft. If you find that you will only remember a word that can be found in the dictionary, spice it up by adding a number to the beginning or end of the word.

Never Use The Same Password

One of the best things you can do is to never use the same Internet security passwords for different websites. If you use the same password for all the sites you visit, anyone who has your password will be able to get all of your information. Reduce the risk of having all of your information found by creating new passwords for every website.

Creating Unique Passwords

The best Internet security passwords are those that have a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols. For added security, use both uppercase and lowercase letters. For example, Red_hat1! This password uses everything.

Do Not Write Them Down

Once you come up with your Internet security passwords, do not write them down. One of the most common mistakes people make is to either write them down in a notebook or keep them on a document on the computer.

Unfortunately, identity theft is becoming a common occurrence. Do whatever you can to protect yourself. Creating Internet security passwords that are unique and a combination of numbers, letters, and symbols could prevent you from becoming another victim.

Feature of Laptop

Now many people use laptops as more and more people have shifted their preference for the portable device. Many schools in USA have made it obligatory for their students the use of laptops to save them from the bulky rucksacks. No wonder that the sales of laptops are unprecedently high in the last couple of years. Very often choosing a right product becomes a difficult task, as many of the first time buyers are getting confused with the technical terms and jargons made use of in the advertisements and catalogues.

Laptops are available in many sizes and shapes. So are the diverse features incorporated in them. The buyers can go for a cheap product if it is intended only for basic usage like word processing or emails. There are expensive products with innovative features. Size and weight are important for this portable device. But then some of the important factors cannot be ignored. Processor, Memory, Screen and battery life are vital matters to be looked into. Processors with Pentium M were used earlier, but now Intel's core duo and core 2 duo are more popular. Some of the laptops use AMD Athlon and Turion 64 x 2 dual core processors also. Intel core duo processor is widely used than other categories. As for memory it is better to have minimum 1GB of RAM which will be sufficient for basic use. For advanced usage like graphics, laptop with a minimum of 128MB dedicated video RAM is needed. For gaming purposes it should be between 256 MB and 512 MB.

Size of the screen is another important factor. Screen sizes vary between 12 inches to 17 inches. Widescreen used for movies etc are also available. But remember that weight of the laptop with larger screens will be more, much to the disadvantage of the users who want to carry it as a personal baggage. Those who want portability for their devices should go for smaller screens. Similarly battery life is important. Many of the laptops batteries will have minimum 3.5 hours of durability. The shopper should make sure of the battery life while buying the product.

There are other features like keyboard, hard drives, USB ports and network capability which are very vital. It all depends on the types of jobs to be carried out in the laptop. Built-in Ethernet capability, built-in wireless connection and built-in blue tooth are other features which are to be taken into account by the prospective buyers. Laptop technology is in a fast forward mode. More and more innovative products are arriving the markets with special features and applications. Special websites devoted to computers and accessories will help the shoppers with valuable tips and guidance regarding the purchase and maintenance of laptops.

Which the best of Notebook ?

There are notebooks coming out every day, making it hard to decide which one to get. Don't expect to understand everything at the onset as it can be very frustrating. The learning curve and the language used takes time to understand, never mind the program interface itself. You should dedicate at least an hour everyday at work or at home to learn something about excel. Here are some approaches you can take to learn faster and become more productive.

1) Use templates - templates are a great way to learn formulas and calculations and how it has been developed. The risk here is that the template is poorly designed. A template should automate many things and be simple to update by 'designing out' the need for you to update it or maintain it. Once you have your template, you can develop it and put your own mark on it.

2) Buy Excel Books - there are some great books on the subject that you can work through at your own pace.

3) Join a Forum - There is tons of information on how to do anything with excel on the web. Type in a search term in Google to start.

4) Solve a problem - this is one of the best ways to learn. Identify a problem with data or something you do not know how to do and then go and research it. You might want to use a template to get you started. There might be something at your work that you could argue would benefit from being turned into a spreadsheet. Volunteer the task and then use the other methods.

5) Become a Microsoft Excel Expert - there are many books to help you prepare to become a recognised expert for this program and any other MS program. You have to really know what you are doing in excel in order to pass this computer exam. The good thing about it is that you need to learn many of the tools that you would either never use or be scared to use. For example, goal seek is one I used to put off all the time. I don't really use because I forget how to. But if you master it, it is a really great tool.

SysInspector Shows What's Chugging On Your PC

SysInspector, a free diagnostic tool from antivirus maker ESET, digs into your system and reports on all the running programs, registry entries, network connections and other info it finds. Its extensive but technical reports would be of most use to those with high-end tech skills

Installing and running ESET SysInspector is easy. Double-clicking it kicks off an inspection, which can take a few minutes to complete.

Reading and interpreting the inspection report, on the other hand, isn't quite so simple. Clicking any of the left-side sections such as running processes, critical files, or services lists entries on the right side, which are color-coded according to SysInspector's assigned risk level. Known safe items are listed as green, unknown items are listed in shades of orange, while risky items are red.

A slider bar can hide all known safe items, allowing you to home in on all the unknown or risky items. And as a diagnostics-only program, you won't risk clicking the wrong button in the program to accidentally delete something you shouldn't. But you'll likely want to get a second opinion, with a Web search for a process or file name, for example, before taking any action on your own. Deleting the wrong file could break a program, or in the worst case, prevent Windows from starting.

In the hands of a security expert or someone who wants to learn more about their PC, ESET SysInspector can provide valuable data. But it's not a fire-and-forget-it tool.

How to Stop All Errors on Your Computer

Unfortunately, many computers are prone to getting errors for a wide number of reasons. This is a problem that even the most advanced of machines faces, and is actually quite damaging to the user experience and effectiveness of your system. Fortunately, there's a trick to stop almost all errors on your PC.

Computer errors are basically a way for Windows to tell you that something is wrong inside your system and that your computer is powerless to fix it. They are basically a message from your computer, telling you about what the problem is and that it needs to be fixed.... otherwise, there's no telling what could happen to your PC.

The problem with most errors is that since they are so random and appear for a number of different reasons, not many people are able to pin them down and fix them. This means that if you want to fix the problems, you really need to fix the cause of the issue by just fixing all the most troublesome parts of Windows, and luckily, there's a tool that does that for you.

It's estimated that 9 our of 10 computers are actually caused by a part of Windows called the 'registry', which is a big database that stores the likes of your settings, information and options for Windows. The registry is actually one of the most frequently used parts of your system, but it's also one of the biggest causes of errors as well. The problem is that since it has all the data for your system, it's actually being used too much and Windows ends up getting confused about which settings it has open, leading it to save many of them in the wrong way.

This makes the settings corrupt and damaged, causing your PC to be unable to read them the next time it needs them, causing errors. This is the main reason why computers have errors and to fix them, you need to use a 'registry cleaner' to scan through the registry & your system files... and fix all the problems that are in there. Registry cleaners are a great little way to fix errors on your PC, because they fix so many corrupt files and problems that are causing damage to your system. If you get a good registry cleaner, you can make your PC run like new again.

Using a registry cleaner to stop computer errors is one of the most effective and easiest ways to do it. However, because there are a lot of registry cleaners around, you really need to be able to get the best cleaner to fix your system.

Make Your Days Easier with 4G

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 328px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_KV0WbnyQQSk/SxC3NPbGkrI/AAAAAAAAACM/Uc8MNUEUXWc/s400/4g.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5409024590578356914" />
Many people rely on their computers and mobile phones not only to communicate with other people, but also to run their daily lives. More now than ever before mobile communications technology have become crucial to businesses and getting things done in general. Email, social networking, and collaborating/messaging have become the norm. People are constantly using their iPhones and other gadgets to find new people, to get directions and to manage their lives. Today's fast paced lifestyles demand that we have all the tools and devices on hand to cope with our normal, everyday lives and day to day activities.

Of course, while today's technology is impressive-we can communicate with friends and family members across oceans and deserts with a simple click of a mouse-there are problems. Internet connectivity for instance, often times leaves a lot to be desired. Many people find that they can't get a reliable or decent internet signal when they roam out of their houses and into the city streets. Signals can be spotty and weak. Most people will end up having to lug their laptops and netbooks to a wifi café, where they often have to pay to use the service, by the half hour at least.

Mobile users are often plagued by the same sort of issues. They will find themselves with dropped calls, poor connections, gaps in service and lack of service due to too many users trying to log in at once, among other things.

Today, the industry standard is 3G, or third generation. This refers to the norms and rules governing mobile communications. The most famous example of a 3G device is the third generation iPhone. 3G was once the biggest thing, however, now there are noticeable failures. People aren't as connected as they would like to be. Improvements definitely need to be made.

And that's where 4G comes in. 4G is the next generation in terms of communications technology. The advantages of fourth generation tech are many. While it hasn't yet been established worldwide, it's likely to come your way very soon. 4G is all about improvements, making things better than they have ever been before.

4G will be characterized by its extensive range of service. Internet users will be able to get a signal over a wide range of distances. Previously, in order to get connected to the net, you'd have to rely on a hotspot with a wifi signal in range. Wifi only can cover some 100-300 feet and a router is required. With 4G and Wimax, transmission towers emit powerful wireless signals directly to users. A signal can travel over some 30 miles, meaning whole cities will become virtual hotspots. Anywhere you go you'll have a reliable internet connection. Your life will become so much easier.

With fourth generation technology, data transfer speeds will become much faster. Whereas previously you couldn't download large files from a wireless connection without it taking ages, now you'll be able to do it within a matter of minutes. The difference is incredible. If you thought things were good now, you will be thoroughly impressed with the arrival of 4G.

Netbook Computers - Is One Right For You?

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 249px; height: 270px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_KV0WbnyQQSk/Swd2nhp64KI/AAAAAAAAAB8/BSo0q0uQhMc/s320/netbookcomputer.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5406420299102740642" />
Netbook computers, which are like miniature versions of laptops, have taken the market by storm lately because of their very convenient size and capabilities. But before you rush out to get one, you first need to determine if one of these new netbook computers is right for you.

The very first thing you need to realize is that these are not designed to be a direct replacement for your desktop or laptop computer. They are designed to be convenient, and that is the key word to focus on. If you open a lot of different browser windows while you have a 10,000 column spreadsheet open and are also doing email at the same time, you are not going to be happy with the performance of your netbook. Almost all of them today have the same processor, the Intel Atom 1.6 Ghz, which is not a dual-core, not high end, so you cannot expect to have three dozen windows and applications open at the same time. But for word processing, spreadsheets, email, and even watching a movie on it, one thing at a time, these netbooks are great.

You also need to be aware that the keyboard is smaller. It will not have an integrated numeric keypad, although you can purchase an external numeric keypad that plugs into the USB port if you want. If you are a touch typist, this is going to take some getting used to, since the keyboard size is about 93% of a normal keyboard size. Not a huge deal, but for a touch typist, it will take some practice to become as proficient as you used to be.

But on the bright side, these netbook computers are extremely handy, if you indeed use it for what is was designed to do for you. First of all, they are extremely portable and light, usually weighing less than 3 pounds with length and width roughly equal to a piece of paper. In height, they are usually about an inch thick. This makes them ideal for putting into a larger purse or briefcase very easily.

They also have significantly more battery life than their laptop counterparts. Getting battery life of more than 4 hours is standard, with some models boasting twice that. A recommendation would be to get one with at least a 6 cell battery instead of the 3 cell battery that is standard in many of them. A 6 cell battery does not add much to the weight and will give you much more battery usage.

Best of all is the price, where even the retail price is usually under $400, and some discount locations have them even cheaper.

These are ideal for situations where you go for long periods of time without the ability to plug into an electrical outlet, like for example on a coast to coast airline flight. And with some airlines like AirTran, you can even get online during flight, and more airlines are making in-flight Internet access available all the time.

As long as you can remain realistic about the capabilities of these netbooks, they can be a valuable addition to your personal and business productivity while on the go.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com

Microsoft unveils Office 2010 public beta

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 206px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_KV0WbnyQQSk/SwTWw8t9NDI/AAAAAAAAAB0/tgxWTlk882E/s320/microsoft-office2010.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5405681589172384818" />
As expected, Microsoft today launched its first public beta of Office 2010, posting the preview for download on its Web site.

In a keynote presentation at its annual Professionals Developer Conference (PDC) in Los Angeles, Kurt DelBene, Microsoft's senior vice president of the Office business productivity group, announced the immediate availability of the Office 2010 Beta. "In the last few minutes, we have made available the public beta of Office 2010," said DelBene during his time on stage at PDC shortly after 1 p.m. ET. "It's now available on the Web, and we hope you all download it."

Microsoft added a download link for the beta to its Web site Wednesday. Computerworld immediately began downloading the preview. Although the beta had not finished downloading as this story was filed and posted, Computerworld encountered no problem reaching the site, retrieving a product key or initiating the download.

The download is for Office Professional Plus 2010, a feature-laden edition that will be available only to enterprises and organizations that purchase licenses in volume when the final suite ships next year. Office Professional Plus includes Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, OneNote, Access, Publisher, InfoPath, SharePoint Workspace -- formerly called Groove -- and Communicator. The 32-bit version of the English-language suite runs 685MB, while the 64-bit edition tips the scales at 750MB.

Users who download Office 2010 Beta are provided with a 25-character product key to activate the preview.

Earlier this week, Microsoft made the beta available to developers and IT professionals who subscribe to the MSDN (Microsoft Developers Network) and TechNet services, hinting that the public version's launch was imminent.

Microsoft also launched a public beta of Office Web Apps, its entry into the online Web applications market. Two months ago, Microsoft cranked up an invitiation-only preview of the online editions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint, but delivered bare-bones versions. Word Web App, for instance, allowed testers only to view Word documents online, not edit them.

People who download Office 2010 Beta can try out the public preview of Office Web Apps by using a Windows Live account to create, edit, store and retrieve documents online. Office Web Apps require Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) or later on Windows; Firefox 3.5 or later on Windows, Mac and Linux; or Safari 4.0 or later on the Mac. Microsoft today launched a public beta of Office Mobile 2010 as well. That suite, which runs on Windows Mobile 6.5-based phones, includes scaled-back versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and new SharePoint Workspace Mobile 2010. It can be downloaded from the Windows Marketplace for Mobile, DelBene said.

DelBene did not set a timetable for the release of Office 2010, keeping to the company line that the suite will ship in the first half of next year.

Dell Announces Mini 3 Smartphone

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 180px; height: 198px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_KV0WbnyQQSk/Sv5ALIWchwI/AAAAAAAAABs/nB_m6_3YtfQ/s320/dell.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5403827162855540482" />
In an announcement that surprised no one, Dell Computers took the wrapping off its Android-based Dell Mini 3 smartphone on Friday.

Dell did not provide a launch date, but the company did say the phone would be available only in Brazil and China to start. That doesn't mean the Mini 3 will never reach American carriers, but don't count on it any time soon.

A Mini 3 History
Earlier this year rumors were circulating that Dell's smartphone project had been canceled due to lame specs and lack of interest from carriers. The day after that rumor came out, CEO Michael Dell reignited handset rumors after he said "it wouldn't be unreasonable" to expect the computer maker to release a smartphone in the future.

Those comments were followed by rumors that Dell was producing a smartphone for the Chinese market. Then in August, a prototype reportedly surfaced at a promotional event in China.

Who Gets the New Phone at Launch?
The Mini 3 will be available in Brazil from the national carrier Claro and from China Mobile in the world's most populous country. The two carriers serve more than 542 million customers combined.

Will the Phone Come to the U.S.?
It's not clear whether the Mini 3 will ever show up in the U.S., and that may not be such a bad thing considering the phone's rumored specs (see below). But Dell was quick to point out in its announcement that the company already sells 3G netbooks through AT&T and Verizon, as well as many other carriers around the world.

Dell hinted that these relationships with carriers could mean "more opportunities to meet the needs of a connected lifestyle" in the future. In October, there were reports that Dell may offer a smartphone through AT&T as early as next year.

What are the Phone's Specs?
Dell did not release any specs for the Mini 3, saying information would only be available on a partner-by-partner basis when the device is available in stores. This suggests Dell will be tailoring the Mini 3's feature set for the particular tastes and needs of each country where the device is sold. This is also supported by the fact that in China, the Dell is baking China Mobile's Ophone platform -- a modified version of Android -- into the Mini 3.

When a prototype of the device surfaced earlier this year, the Mini 3 (then known as the Mini3i) was believed to have a 3.5-inch touchscreen with 360-by-640 resolution, mini USB port, SD card slot (no word on maximum storage size), and a 3.2-megapixel camera. The Mini3i was also thought to be a 2G device with no Wi-Fi connectivity. However, considering China Mobile's recent desire to improve its 3G offerings, it's safe to assume Dell's Mini 3 has been bumped up to 3G capability.

With or without 3G, the Mini3i's rumored specs were so lame they only reinforced earlier reports that Dell's smartphone was a real stinker. If the Mini 3 is to have any impact in the U.S., the company would have to step up its game for a market that is becoming increasingly crowded with BlackBerrys, Droids and iPhones

Xperia X10 : Sony Ericsson's Stylish Android Phone Debuts

Sony Ericsson's first Android-based smartphone, the Xperia X10, comes with a unique user interface that's designed to improve handling and organization of communications and multimedia content. But one analyst said the interface still needs work, particularly when it comes to speed and responsiveness, before the phone hits the market.

The X10 will be flagship model in a family of phones coming to market during the first half of next year, Sony Ericsson said, without providing details of other models in the lineup.

As part of the X10's interface, Sony Ericsson added two applications, dubbed Timescape and Mediascape, to the Android, following in the footsteps of Motorola, HTC and Acer, which have also tweaked the operating system for their own handsets.

These modifications may prove to be important. The problem is, Chrome hasn't precisely turned things around as the mythical hero did, mercilessly and unequivocally, on behalf of the Greeks against the Trojans.

With a modest market share of about 4 percent, Chrome, which was launched on Sept. 1 last year, hasn't yet come close to approaching market leader Internet Explorer, nor the second-most-popular browser, Firefox.

"To date, Chrome really hasn't had the success that I suspect Google had anticipated for it," said Sheri McLeish, a Forrester analyst.

As it turns out, Chrome has more than a few Achilles heels.

For starters, it doesn't exist for Mac OS and Linux users, two camps full of technology enthusiasts and early adopters. The Mac OS and Linux versions are delayed. To make matters worse, the doors of most workplaces, particularly large enterprises, remain closed to Chrome because it lacks basic features that IT departments need.

While Google will remedy these two issues at some point, there are other obstacles to Chrome's adoption that may be harder to fix.

One is the widespread ignorance among many consumers about browsers, and their tendency to default to the one that comes with their PC. Another issue goes back to a question asked repeatedly at Chrome's launch: Does the world need another browser? Or put another way: Does Chrome offer enough of an improvement to justify switching to it?

Google certainly didn't help Chrome's chances to sprint out of the gate by releasing it as a beta product that was quite rough around the edges. Not only was Chrome unstable and buggy at first, but it didn't play well with many Web sites, including some of Google's own, because Google made its release a surprise and didn't give webmasters advance notice to adapt their sites.

While Chrome's low adoption in workplaces isn't surprising, its modest popularity among consumers is more worrisome. "We haven't seen any mass exodus from consumers to jump to Chrome from other browsers," McLeish said.

Since Chrome hasn't taken the world by storm, and considering that Microsoft, Mozilla and Apple continue to enhance their respective browsers, should Google stick with this project?

"Google should stay in the game if they think they can innovate and differentiate in the long run and put enough marketing and R&D [research and development] behind the effort," IDC analyst Al Hilwa said via e-mail.

This is Google's intention, according to Brian Rakowski, a Google group product manager in the Chrome team. "There's still a lot of work to do, but it'll be pretty great," he said.

Rakowski takes exception to the idea that Chrome lacks appeal, saying it has about 30 million active users, even though it doesn't yet fully play in the Mac OS, Linux and enterprise IT segments.

"Given the remaining chunk of market that's there, we've done pretty well in a short period of time. If you look at historical browser growth rates, it's a slow process. It takes time," Rakowski said.

A big reason why it takes time is the complacency of consumers. "Most people honestly don't know and they don't care about browsers. They just want to get on the Web," McLeish said. Even Microsoft struggles with this, as many consumers resist upgrading to newer versions of IE, she said.

Hilwa's research reflects a similar reality. Consumers have been conditioned to think of the browser as an integral part of their PC and its operating system, and thus are unlikely to switch.

"Using browsers not supplied with the machine remains the province of power-users, which creates a bit of disconnect in the strategy Google has, which is to bring browser innovation to the masses," Hilwa said. "Ultimately, this might become a war about operating system platforms again before it becomes a seriously competitive browser market again."

Aware of this, Google is planning an attack from that flank with its still-unreleased Chrome operating system, which will be deeply interwoven with the Chrome browser. In addition, Google is making moves to have the browser pre-installed on PCs, as a recent deal with Sony shows.

Still, Google, horrified at consumers' ignorance about browsers, has enlisted its marketing department to help educate people. "There's a large number of people who just don't know what a browser is. That's a huge challenge for us," Rakowski said.

In the meantime, the Chrome team keeps focusing primarily on performance improvements, which are the browser's main selling points and ultimately the key reasons for its existence.

"Everything [in the Chrome browser], from the new Javascript engine to its multiprocess architecture, is designed with heavier, more intensive Web apps in mind," Rakowski said.

While this is a valid effort, the average user cares or understands little about browser speed and performance, so this is unlikely to draw many new users.

"Most of the internal stuff is really lost on the unwashed masses of users who are not going to get into the complexity of browsers," Hilwa said.

Plus, the browser is far from the only element that affects the performance of online applications and services, McLeish said. Local network bandwidth, ISP (Internet service provider) traffic, the user's PC hardware and the landing Web site's server all play a part.

Google argues that the value of the Chrome project isn't limited to its own success. As an open-source browser, Chrome can help spur innovation in browser technology across the board, which is crucial for Google, Rakowski said.

However, it's unclear to what extent it will be feasible for other browsers to incorporate Chrome code, when one hears Rakowski explain why Google decided to build a new browser instead of simply contributing to Firefox.

"There were reasons not to build on existing technology. Some of the architectural changes we wanted to make were so different and disruptive that it would have been very hard to do in existing code base and very disruptive to existing road maps and plans of these teams," he said. "You would have had to put the entire development cycle on hold while you experimented with some of these research-y things."

What's clear is that, as Chrome enters its second year, the Chrome team is moving as fast as it can, eager to release versions for Mac OS and Linux and add enterprise IT features, as well as work its way down its long to-do list.

"As soon as we get some time to breathe we'll add those things and that'll enable us to reach a whole other set of users," Rakowski said.

And when that happens, it will be not a moment too soon

Intel releases Windows 7 SSD optimization toolbox

Intel Corp. announced the availability today of a tool kit to optimize the performance of its X25-M consumer-class solid state disk (SSD) drive with Windows 7 operating system.

The Intel SSD Toolbox with Intel SSD Optimizer and firmware update was created for the company's latest 34nm Intel X25-M Mainstream SATA SSDs, which were released in July.

The tools are designed to help better manage and retain the out-of-box performance of Intel SSDs, Intel said in a statement.

The Intel SSD Toolbox allows users to more effectively monitor and manage the SSD's health. The firmware upgrade and Intel SSD Optimizer use the Windows 7 ATA Data Set Management Command (known as Trim) to help keep the Intel SSD running at continued high performance.

In addition, the SSD Toolbox and Optimizer also allow the respective enhancements to work with Windows XP and Vista.

"Not only will Windows 7 users receive the performance enhancements of the Trim command, but so will our Windows XP and Vista users," said Pete Hazen, director of marketing, Intel NAND Solutions Group.

The Trim attribute of Windows 7 synchs the operating system's view of deleted files with those that are deleted, but not erased on the drive. Trim tells the SSD which data blocks are no longer in use. Intel said this helps stabilize the performance and health of the SSD over time.

For X25-M owners with 160GB of capacity on the dive, the firmware update also offers a performance boost to sequential write speeds by delivering up to 100MB per second, a 40% performance improvement over the existing firmware version.

The Intel SSD Toolbox provides SSD management tools and information about the drive, including comparing Self-Monitoring and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) drive attributes to manufacturer threshold.

It provides basic and full diagnostics, along with recommended actions. The Toolbox also features a graphical user interface that will allow end users to schedule and run the Trim command independent of the operating system.

Intel recommends users install the firmware update and toolbox, and run the Trim function daily to ensure best performance.

The Best Registry Cleaner For Windows Vista SP1

The problem with most Vista registry cleaners is that they will actually cause a lot more damage than good to your PC. Because all registry cleaners work in the same way, to do a similar job, there are very good ones, and very bad ones. It's vital that you use a good registry cleaner on your system, because if you don't, your PC could be permanently damaged.

Unfortunately, many registry cleaners are unable to do their job properly, making your system run slower and with a lot more errors than before. You see, the job of a registry cleaner is to scan through the big 'registry database' that lies at the heart of Windows, and fix any of the errors and damaged files that are in there. The registry stores all the settings for Windows, basically acting like its "memory", giving software and your OS a place to store your options.

The problem with the registry is actually very simple, and has earned it the nickname of the "Achilles Heel Of Windows". Even in Vista, Windows is reading 100's of registry files each time you use your PC. Because there are so many files open, your PC gets confused and ends up saving many of them in the wrong way. This causes your computer to run slower, as it takes longer to read the files that it needs... and is the cause of many of the most common errors you will see in Vista as well.

Registry cleaner software has been created to fix the registry and keep it in order. These tools work by scanning through all the registry files on your system and then fixing any of the corrupt files that are in there. However, if you try and use the wrong registry cleaner on Vista, you'll end up damaging your computer a lot more than you'll fix it. The problem is that since Vista has a variety of new features, it has many new files in the registry. Older registry cleaners cannot recognize these files and end up deleting them from your computer, making Vista run a lot slower and with a lot more errors. And if the cleaner is so bad that it deletes too many files, your PC will be permanently damaged.

It's important to use the best registry cleaner for Vista, which is the one that can find and fix all the genuine registry errors on your system. There are only a handful of cleaners which are able to scan and fix the registry of Vista, but having tested many of the most popular ones, we've found a tool called "RegAce" works the best. RegAce is a new registry cleaner, and because of this, it has a lot of features which are able to make it clean out the Vista registry in its entirety.

From our experience, the best Vista registry cleaner is a tool called RegAce

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com

IBM plans big hardware upgrade next year

IBM disclosed the plans at a time when server sales among all vendors have taken a bruising during the economic downturn, and IBM is no exception. In a third quarter earnings call yesterday, said Mark Loughridge, IBM's chief financial officer, said that the company's third quarter mainframe revenue declined by 26% from the year-earlier period.
Nonetheless, Loughridge said IBM is optimistic about the hardware business in the near future in a climate of what he called a return to "general stability."
The new Power7 chip will offer up to eight cores and increase support for virtualized environments, executives said. IBM has slowly be releasing specs for Power7, which it says will support 1,000 virtualized machines, almost four times the 254 supported by the dual core Power6 chip that was released in 2007. IBM's Power chips support AIX, Linux and the older System I computers.
IBM released its last mainframe, the z10, in February, 2008, and typically releases a new mainframe every three years. If it keeps with that schedule, the new mainframe probably won't be shipping until late next year.
Gordon Haff, an analyst at Illuminata Inc. in Nashua, N.H., said IBM's next mainframes may help users cut costs by allowing them to move some of the mainframe processing to IBM x86 systems. In a hybrid system, the mainframe may handle the service management and data storage with the x86 systems performing some of computational work, said Haff.
IBM has tried to cut user costs in the current mainframe line by using specialty processing engines, such the Linux IFL processor.
The ability to offload mainframe work to the x86 systems of multiple vendors is one of the reasons cited by the Computer and Communications Industry Association (CCIA) trade group in its effort to trigger a new antitrust inquiry into IBM practices by the Department of Justice. The trade group claims that IBM is blocks third party vendors from offering such an offloading capability.
Rich Partridge, an analyst at Ideas International Inc. in Rye Brook, N.Y., said that with increases in throughput and processing power in the next mainframe, IBM will probably encourage users to replace servers with mainframes to cut back on data center sprawl. The argument for "more centralized computing infrastructure will play to the mainframe," he said.
IBM's planned hardware improvements come as Oracle Corp. outlines more of its plan to integrate Sun Microsystems Inc. once its deal to buy the struggling computer maker closes. Oracle CEO Larry Ellison went into overdrive about IBM at company's annual conference OpenWorld, vowing to vanquish IBM.
IBM CTO Alan Ganek was sanguine about IBM's prospects in any head-to-head performance metric match up.
"Oracle is a competitor and will always be a partner," said Ganek, of Ellison's attack, "but I don't see any change here I'm worried about."
Meanwhile, Loughridge noted that IBM's software's sales improved in the third quarter. He cited In particular a 2% increase in sales of the company's major middleware products, such as the WebSphere, Tivoli, Lotus and Rational product lines.
Ganek said in an interview that improvements in the WebSphere and other middleware lines generally are the result of automating businesses processes, so that a user's data can flow through the process end-to-end.

source : computerworld

Samsung quietly testing mini SSD for laptops and netbooks

Samsung Corp. said during an interview today that it is testing a new consumer-class solid state drive (SSD) with computer makers that's about one-third the size of a business card and that would plug directly into an internal PCI Express (PCIe) slot in a desktop, laptop or netbook.

Samsung told Computerworld at the Storage Networking World show that its new SSD conforms to the new mini-SATA (mSATA) interface that the SATA International Organization (SATA-IO) announced at Intel's Developer's Forum last month.

The new drive's form factor leaves behind the hard disk drive case that most solid state disk (SSD) drives come in today that require serial ATA (SATA) slots.

Samsung's new mSATA drive currently has capacities of up to 64GB. Industry observers have said that the 2.5-in and 3.5-in disk drive casings used to house solid state chips that make up SSDs are only a stop-gap measure until makers modify mother boards to include PCIe slots.

While the drive may not contend with today's traditional hard disk drives (HDD) that are approaching 2TB in size, it can be used to run the PC's OS and higher performance applications right next to a slower, higher capacity HDD that would be used for mass storage of things such as photos, video, music and slower applications.

The mSATA drive uses a PCIe slot that does not currently exist in today's desktops, laptops and netbooks. So hardware makers would need to modify their products to include a PCIe slot. The mSATA drive, however, still uses the serial ATA (SATA) protocol, which would allow data and applications to be moved seamlessly between a hard disk drive and the smaller SSD.

"mSATA will eventually be an industry standard," said Brian Beard, flash marketing manager for Samsung Semiconductor.

source : www.computerworld.com

The Best Internet Browser

As you have surfed the Internet over the past few years. I am sure that you have heard of the above 3 browsers.

So what is an Internet browser? It is your window to the Internet. From which, you surf web pages, watch you tube videos and do Internet banking.

Internet Explorer which is installed on your PC if you are using a windows system.

Fire-fox was officially born in 2004 which started as an alternate web browser as an substitute to Internet browser. However its history dated back to 2002.

Lastly, Chrome, being the new kid on the block, was launched by google and is slowly gaining market share.

What defines as the best Internet browser?

Web Browser Security

I believe most of us are looking for security and functionalities in our browser.

The best Internet browser in terms security, I will say both fire fox and chrome are secure web browsers.

From my own experience in using Internet browsers, previous version of Internet explorer was the one that gave me the most issues. Problems i faced includes browser hijack and script errors on websites when the web pages are working perfectly fine in fire fox and chrome.

However since the release of Internet explorer 8, problems have been reduced and the browser is more stable.

With refer to PWN2OWN, a contest which contestants hack into various operating systems through Internet browsers. The event took place at Mar 18 2009

If you are not into technical details. The results are as follows

Internet Explorer 8, Firefox and Safari are hacked into. Google Chrome is the only browser that is not hacked by hackers.

Functionalities and Customization

In terms of functions and customization, firefox is at the top spot. Even though Internet Explorer is catching up, it still pretty far away from the leader as firefox had much more customized addon as compared to IE.

Addons or plugins are programs meant to provide additional features that the original browser does not have. Some examples will be download accelerators, news report and weather watcher.

Chrome loses out on features. It serves to work as your basic Internet browser without any addons. However, this is the feature that make chrome safe.

Internet Browser Addons

Although addons give you additional features and functions, addons could be written by hackers. Thanks to their small size, chances of them getting stolen are high. If your USB drive contains extremely private and sensitive information, go in for USB data security. These measures would help prevent anyone from accessing your personal details.

How to secure USB

Majority of modern USB Stick are now accompanied with specific pre-installed security features enabling users to prevent unauthorized access and password protect their data. If you have private information stored inside, simply password-protect the USB drive.

Using encryption, you can add extra security to the data. Some software use 128-bit AES encryption for maximum security and don't store passwords on removable USB drives.

Data recovery

If your USB doesn't have the password protection option or built-in security, use third party software.

Below are some of the free passwords-protect software to secure USB:-

• FOLDER LOCK: It is one of the fastest ways to password protect and encrypt your folders and files. You can either select to encrypt essential files from techies or lock your private data, pictures and files from casual users. This software comes with plug-and-play support, portability, hack attempt monitoring, stealth mode, shredding, encryption and locking.

Salient Features:

• Folder Encryption, File Encryption, Drive Lock, Folder Lock, File Lock

• Uses 256-bit AES encryption

• Password-protection of USB Drives without the requiring installation at the other end

• Use tool in stealth mode (used while hiding the tool from other system users)

• Move, e-mail, backup or transfer password-protected lockers wherever desired

• TRUE CRYPT: It is open-source software used for creating encrypted folders on USB drives. Its major advantage is that you can install it in USB drive and use it in the form of portable application.

• CRYPTAINER: It is a full freeware utility to password-protect USB drives. You can encrypt folders and files by simply dropping and dragging them into the vault. Additionally, it permits you to form secure-email files which you can send it to anyone.

Even after completely protecting the USB drives, chances that the hackers would crack USB password using keyboard sniffers and keyloggers are high.

SafeStick provides mandatory password protection and automatic hardware encryption of all stored data. SafeStick drives are manageable world-wide on an enterprise scale with the lightweight SafeConsole management software offering full control, remote life-cycle management and device enhancement such as remote password recovery, customised password policy, audit for compliance, portable authentication tokens, productivity tools.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/

Computer Failure

There are over 250 million computers in use in just the United States alone. They do everything from streamline and control the operations of major manufacturing plants or huge institutions to allowing a person to communicate via the Internet from the comfort of their own living room.

Thanks to a wealth of information from a wide variety of sources, most computer owners understand the importance of running virus protection programs, making back up disks to restore their operating system after a crash and installing a firewall to keep their machines safe from outside intruders.

Although most of us are now indeed conditioned to run all these various system checks on a regular basis, many of us still find ourselves complaining about PCs that crash and freeze, computers that make strange and disturbing noises and annoyances such as a disk drive that refuses to read disks properly any more. So if it is not a virus or a full memory causing these problems what might it be?

The number one cause of these kinds of problems and indeed the number one cause of overall computer failure in general is far simpler than any bug or virus created by a clever hacker. It is dust, common dust that is everywhere in the air.

Yet many people do not realize the amount of dust that can get inside a computer and the damage it can cause. A computer's cooling fans run all the time that a computer is powered on, even if it is "sleep" mode. Unprotected dust is pulled into the computer every time the fan spins and it accumulates far more quickly than you might imagine.

To protect a computer from this dangerous intrusion costs less than $5 per computer, yet it is still overlooked by many people. A removable, replaceable filter mesh that catches the dust being drawn in before it enters the computer is the best answer available and is a simple way that any computer can be protected from its number one enemy. The average computer repair person charges about $100 just for the first initial visit and a repair can cost much more, not to mention that precious data that can be lost forever when a computer fails. Taking five minutes to install this inexpensive safeguard can add years of useful life to the average computer's overall function whatever its make or model.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com

Toshiba Vs Dell Vs HP Laptops

Toshiba, Dell and HP are some of the best brands in the world when it comes to laptops. They offer great value for your money and excellent performance to boot. Here is a quick comparison in several categories between these three laptop giants.

Price: In this category, HP and Dell are neck in neck in competitiveness. Although both brands offer great value for your money, Dell seems to be a little cheaper in its overall price. Toshiba is a little more expensive than these two brands probably due to its extensive R&D. Among these three brands, Dell laptops are the cheapest where they also offer a high level of customization.

Durability: As someone who has used all three brands before, Toshiba is the clear winner in this category. There is something about Toshiba laptops that not only makes it last really long but also last long flawlessly. My oldest Toshiba machine is about 6 years old and I don't remember the last time I have ever had the need to send it back to the service center. Among these three brands HP would come in second while Dell is in a close third (from my years of collecting customer feedback).

Features & Performance:HP is the winner of this category. Probably due to the fact that HP tries to create entertainment-centric laptops, their machines sometimes comes with an extraordinarily amount of bells and whistles. Toshiba comes in second where it strives to offer the latest essential features in its laptop. What Dell laptops lack in extra features is made up by their amazing customer service. Dell is known for providing one of the best services around.

Overall:All these three laptop brands have strengths that will cater for many niches of the market. Consumers who are looking for a laptop that would last for long time with solid performance should look no further than a Toshiba laptop. Those who are on a budget and appreciate good service should get Dell laptop. Those who love a feature-filled and well-priced laptop should consider a HP machine.

For more reviews and product info on currently one of the best Toshiba laptops in the market visit Toshiba Satellite A505-S5973. Most personal computer resellers can you determine whether your existing computer is upgradable or not. The original manufacturer of the person computer can also provide insight on whether or not this is possible.

Not all manufacturers of personal computers allow for an upgrade path for your equipment. Instead they frequently release newer versions of PCs with higher performing computer components which are usually not backward compatible. This is one of their best techniques to encourage people to purchase the latest computers available which have the faster, bigger, and unique capabilities that their otherwise older PC did not have or offer. Although this is a great strategy for selling new computers it does not leave many options for people who want to extend the life of their existing computers by adding or upgrading individual components.

Some computer components that can provide increased performance by upgrading them include the monitor. Many existing and new computers are compatible with almost all the monitors. Of course some monitors will have starker clarity and higher resolution with a newer video board or computer but you can still see some improvements by upgrading the monitor. And there are some computer manufacturers that provide a more enhanced video board that could be compatible with your current PC if you are looking for improvement in graphics and images.

Other computer components that can typically be upgraded without purchasing a new computer can also be a keyboard, mouse, speakers and devices used for games such as joysticks. These types of components are much easier to upgrade over the internal components of your main computer.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com

Does a Registry Easy Cleaner Help?

Does a registry easy cleaner actually help you in getting rid of all the errors that are caused? This is a problem millions of people have and it starts the day you take your computer out of the box. You can fix this though without any expensive upgrades or having to buy a new PC.

There are three main reasons for this problem. Here they are and how to fix them.

#1 Lack of memory. This caused by the combination of every program that is installed. Many programs use memory even when you are not using them as windows loads them when it starts up.

Each time programs are installed more memory is used, until there is barely enough to do anything. These also bloat the registry by adding more and more entries, slowing your PC down further. Remove every program that you do not use.

#2 Programs and files scattered all over the disk drive. This happens when you install them and makes it harder for windows to find anything and eventually corruption occurs and programs will not run as files become too scattered. This can be fixed with the windows disk defragmenter program which is in accessories -> system tools.

#3 Registry errors and corruption. This is the single biggest cause of a slow computer and windows errors. Every program you install puts an entry in the registry and even when the program is removed the entries remain behind slowing windows down, eventually errors occur and these errors in the registry cause windows to restart by itself, freeze and to eventually fail to start if they are not fixed.

A free registry scan will find them all in minutes, and there can be hundreds. Then you can fix them with a single click of the mouse.

If you have a slow PC here is the solution for a Slow Windows Computer this is guaranteed to make your PC faster, just click here

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Brad_Armstrong

What to Look For When You Buy Computers

Every couple of years people replace their computers. Or, they need to buy computers for their children going off to college or for another purpose. When you look at all of the computers for sale, especially if the company has done enough advertising to become a household name you get the feeling that you "know" them. The problem is that the more we see these people on television and in print, the more we trust them. That is a huge mistake!

It is important when you are considering a computer system that you ask some hard questions, and look very closely at the fine print. Here are some of the things you will want to be aware of before you buy computers.

READ THE FINE PRINT

It seems that the way that some of the more unscrupulous computer companies that are losing money are making it back is by including outrageous fine print that actually charges you to return the computer system if it is defective. Yes, Dell Computer, offers free shipping. What they don't tell you is that if the product is defective, you have to pay to ship it back to them and if you don't have one of "their" dell technicians go over the computer system before returning it, you will not have a hope of getting a refund!

Another little splurb in the fine print is that if you return the computer with a dell technician going over it to make sure that it is lousy and return the computer, not only do you not get a refund for the money you have spent on the computer, BUT you don't get the computer replaced by Dell. So, they get your money AND the computer!

Another little "fine print" mega money maker for Dell computer is that if you do return a product, even if it is defective, even if you have done nothing but remove it from the box and put it back, they charge you a 15% "re-shelf" fee. So, if you have bought one of Dell's "cheap" computers for over a thousand dollars and it didn't work and you took it to a "certified Dell Technician" who affirmed that it was defective, and returned it, you are still going to have to pay 15% plus pay to ship it back to the company yourself just for ordering the dell computer. Now I don't know about you, but I have NEVER gotten a "tip" for doing a lousy job. But, this company includes that little message in the fine print so that even if they don't give you a quality product, they are still going to make money off of you.

When you are shopping for a personal computer, be certain to read the fine print before paying any money or signing any contracts. Don't assume that the company is honest or reputable. If a company is not selling a quality product they are going to make their money off the backs of people trying to return the bad product. And, if you think that the fine print is too small, then there is something in there that the company does not want you to see. Walk away, find a company locally that will stand behind their product and, even if it appears to cost a little more, go for quality and honesty. In the end, the extra money you spend on an honest and reputable company will be much less than what you will spend trying to get a company like Dell computer to stand behind their product.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

Just because a company has an 800 number does not mean that they are going to answer it. Or, if they do answer it, it does not mean that you will actually get "customer service." When shopping for a computer system make sure that there is an actual human who will help you if you need assistance. One of the ways that some computer companies avoid having to actually "talk" about their defective products is to run you through seven or eight mechanic and human voices who cannot help you and put you on hold until the next person comes on to say they can't help you. They do this because they know that the majority of people will give up and keep the defective equipment they have purchased, or call in a local repairman to try and fix the computer system.

For the life of your system, you will have more contact with a customer service representative of the company that you buy the product from than anyone else. Be certain that you actually will be able to contact a customer service representative that can help you solve problems and issues. "Hostgator" is a very reputable company that has customer service technicians who will come on line for you and walk you through any issues that you may have, they are incredibly helpful. This is a big company, they get all kinds of questions and issues everyday, but they manage to provide personal one on one customer service. If the excuse you get from a computer supplier is that they are "so" big, "so" busy, "so" bored that they can't take the time to help you. Or, if they don't have online live chat to help you, then go to a different computer company. When live chat online is only used as a sales tool, that is not going to help you when you are trying to figure out how to make your wireless keyboard work. You want help when you need it, not when it is convenient for dell computer people to play the transfer game.

Even though the price of a quality computer system has decreased over the last few years, this is still a big investment for most people. We depend on our computers and need them to work. And, we need to know that the company we purchase our computer system from is going to provide a quality product and excellent customer service when we buy computers. It is vital that we make conscious and knowledgeable decisions when we buy computers and do not fall prey to unscrupulous companies that have forgotten who supports them.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Ellen_Jackson
